Hi dear community,

I have been quite off these last months, but I don't forget you.
Yes, the version 4.0 is under work, but I cannot give any release date at the moment. It is quite a long way.
Many features are already working, but version 4.0 has a lot of changes, so I am reviewing it all from scratch.
I keep and the framework builder, but all the templates and sniplets of codes are beeing rewited. It is not a simple version as others.

After 4.0, Joomla will keep with this new way and will have back compatibility for all future versions. The hard work is worth fo the result.
I feel so sorry for all the opened answered tickets and messages, but the phoenix will reborn.
Coding is now a piece of cake

Since J4 is available now, I would really like to hear a deadline date.
Otherwise I will have to switch over to other solutions unfortunatly, I cannot afford to run old versions of Joomla for a long time.

Same here. I am really disappointed because I bought a lifetime licence to support this great tool and feeling scammed.

As we normally do not get an answer here anymore I would like to talk about other solutions. Has anyone already found a good one?

I also have a lifetime license. but i agree to let Admin give notice. It's a long and complicated job because of a lot of change on V4

maybe we can help make the changes, if admin needs help. it is too difficult to work alone

But WE need answers

I'm just starting to build 4.0 websites now, but not needing my JCook extensions just yet...

I realise Jocelyn is busy on other projects. I have a lifetime licence too... but the problem with that type of funding model is that ongoing income for development can dry up. So I'm happy to donate some more to expedite the process.

JCook has saved me lots of time over the years ;)

Yes, I am not worried about the license or the costs either.

I have created a reasonably large component which relies mainly on forked code. The time Jcook has saved me by generating code for the MVC structure is worth much more than the payment.
If I should do that component again, it will be a huge effort which I want to avoid.

I fully agree with your remark on the funding model and I am also will to donate, but not without a roadmap and some commitment from Jocelyn.

Absolutely the same position here like Romkabouter. I'd pay for the upgrade, too, but communication was too bad to pay in advance.
If we do not get any reliable roadmap I will probably switch to JCB (link). Its a Joomla component that will generate the coded component. Its installable in the same installation and downloadable afterwards. This way you don't have to be frightened that one day this page will suddenly shut down, because the magic behind is installed on your own server. Looks like a good alternative to me. J4 is in active development, project is open source and does not rely on one person. There's a workaround that should lead to an installable J4 version on github. I'll definitely keep an eye on it.

Once again: I do not want to switch, like all of you, because this ends up in a lot of work. But it feels like we are not gonna get around it. That's why I asked for alternatives. If some of you find other ones, please post them here or send me a pm. Thanks!

I'll check out JCB as well and then see how much rework has to be done. Probably a large amount.

For some other project I started developing in Laravel, because in that project there is no need for articles and such.

I am in the same boat. I have a number of components that will need to be migrated to Joomla 4 and am considering my options. One option I am considering is Component Creator. (Link). I would be very interested to know if anyone else has considered this option and your opinion.

I've used it a longer while ago to test. Now after you put in back in my mind I started to build my biggest extension and must say Component Creator is very good. Its very easy to use and has an sql import function to quickly add all the necessary tables from your component. Found a bug today and it got fixed immediateley. I really like the empty views option to have some empty files to start from in the frontend. One more fact is that you can use it for free with table limitation but don't have to pay each month to build bigger components. So lets say you have 2 tables and want to add some new fields and compile you will have to get premium again - for a month. This is perfect for my needs to build only some components. There are some videos as a documentation. Unfortunately not more but the support is fast. Thank you for mention it!

By the way: JCB from my previous post is not fully compatible to J4 yet. 'Cause of that CC won as the fastest one being perfectly ready for J4.

If it's the Sandbox 4 that's holding things up, we could do away of that for now and use our own environments to test.

Let us know that you are still here Jocelyn

Hello everyone, I think Jocelyn HUARD will unfortunately not be back. I can't find any trace of the 100%vitamin company, but since December 2021 jocelyn has created a real estate company.

Not knowing what will happen to the domain name,
I advise everyone to make copies of the components you don't want to lose. and find another component creator to switch to a joomla 4.
in my opinion, the biggest regret will be to lose our community that I loved so much.

I agree. I am moving on. I have experimented with Component Creator and RSForms. I am going to try to do as much as I can with RSForms and use CC for the remainder. RSForms is very customizable with many hooks to insert custom code and html attributes.

I can see on Chef's profile he logged on a few days ago - so he is alive! ;)

JCB isn't Joomla 4 ready yet - and they missed their deadline of July 2021. So I guess we are in similar circumstances...

Component Creator is Joomla 4 ready, but it doesn't use forks for your custom code - you have to add in all the custom code manually for every component build (and somehow document those changes) - so JCook is still leading regarding forks.

Last roadmap annoucement of Chef's was only 5 months ago... so I'm still hopeful at this stage for a J4 release of JCook. Fingers and toes crossed.

Maybe Chef will make his fortunes in realestate... to fund his past time developing JCook.

Yes, that is why I have not switched. My components rely heavily on forks.
