Difficulty Using Cook 20 Jun 2012 06:04 #2581

Hi,
I am a very computer literate person, and I have basic knowledge in PHP (oo), Javascript, HTML, CSS, XML and Joomlas MVC structure. However I have been finding it really difficult to follow the tutorial for component development on the joomla dev resourses website. Then I found this Cook software and I though wonderful, this should make it 10x easier to write this component I am trying to make. However this does not seem so. The lack of documentation makes this amazingly well thought out and brilliantly coded project a waste of time for so many people who can't use it.

Can you help me?

The component I am writing essentially needs back end only interface. All it has to do is let users check some check boxes and then press a button which submits those checked values to a function which will do something (I don't want to go into to much detail here).

I am finding this seemingly simple task impossible! I have a check box, well at least i think I do, but how do i submit its information to both or either a database entry or php function. And can I just make a php file anywhere that has the functions in it that I need operated?

From what I can gather, this Cook software is only designed for creating an interface, it does not have any actual capability to allow the components to do anything? I am probably wrong, but like many other people I am in desperate need of assistance in using your software.

Please, any assistance would be appreciated.

(Yes I have watched all the youtube tutorials, but they don't really explain much, they moreso show you how to click and drop stuff, I think what would help is a proper explanaition of what each dropable thing does so that we can properly understand and apply that understanding.)

Thanks again,
Alex Harper.

It's really simple : there is no possibility for check boxes right now but it will be in the future version of jCook which is expected very soon.
