Hi

I'm a little sad about the new price change, but I understand money has to be made for time spend on this great software. But last time I visited I noticed on the page www.j-cook.net/index.php/pricing that there were more than 20 days left to buy with the old price (26 I believe), so I thought ok - I can wait 14 days and then perhaps buy for a longer period than else as some money on a project was coming in.

Now I returned and see the old price is removed before time.
Google cache agrees with me: webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=...&hl=da&ct=clnk&gl=dk

Google cache on 9th of june says 20 days left.
The old price should have been available until 29th of June, so why isn't it?

noticed the same thing ... the pricing page indicated the lower price would be available until near the end of the month but the price went up over the weekend.

Sorry, you are right.

I made a confusion myself. I remember I had finally planned for the end of promotion for the end of June and not 15th as it was my first idea.

On the 15th, I manually changed for the new price without had checked the date. I was pretty sure it was the 15th that I had retained. (Same day than the migration of the builder)

Pfff....so crazy stuff...I really need holidays ;-)

I have restored the promotion back until the 30th of June.
For the users who have paid the new price, your subscribtion has been extended.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to drop my '2 pennies' in...

Firstly, I know there's a big squeeze on everyone's wallets at the moment so on the one hand, I do understand where you are both coming from (@Tomaselli & @dyvel).

On the other... I'd like to say that I'm absolutely certain that Jocelyn did not mean to deceive anyone in any way at all. Moreover, as long time members and supporters, surely both of you guys think its well worth it, right?

I know from chatting to Jocelyn a while back, the coming of 2.5 would be the 'next generation' of component creation for Joomla and although my experience in the new builder is sadly limited to a few early peeks I took at it, even then it was already so much faster, lighter and more agile. Now, I've no doubt that its way more advanced since I last looked. Furthermore, re-looking at the so called, 'competition' who shall remain nameless, they are still more expensive and have far inferior features and no sandbox.

I think that the only other thing to say on the matter is that the Cook Service is a professional service for professional developers. Sure, you don't need to be and YES, its an absolutely awesome tool to learn about Joomla development, its implementation of the MVC design pattern and a whole lot more. However, it is geared towards those who are going to make money out of their components and therefore, quite rightly it costs.

Lastly, I don't think that anyone could deny Jocelyn making a buck for his hard work and dedication in bringing this awesome service to us for a (still) very reasonable price...

(@ everyone else)
After all, if this service doesn't save you at least the the value of a subscription on a month to month basis, then it is likely that you are either a beginner/hobbyist developer in which case, its value cannot be considered financial at all or coding is probably not your vocation.

Anyway, I'm looking very forward to working with you all and will try to help in any way I can!!!

Best regards,

Gez

Thank you Gez,

About the price :
- It was underestimated before, because the project was under construction. A lot of people have paid the price of having a not complete or even a poor quality code and now have to migrate all... I have received a lot of help from the community during this period, so I simply couldn't ask too much money, as far as I recognize the effort of all of us

- 3 months is highly sufficient to built any kind of project. 3 months = 45€ = price of a template.

- Cook Self Service is open to everybody of course, but really orientated for web agencies and developers. You are supposed to resell your applications and certainly you will cover your costs easily.

- I agree that a lot of people are running out of money, but this price is nothing for a professional. It this way, it have a sense of not destructing the market of developers, limiting it to the professionals.

Anyway, now you have 12 days more for the promotion.

I fully understand, and if I had money to spend I'd buy a lifetime account just to support you. I am a developer but don't do much in custom component development = j-cook is mostly for fun and personal development.

My issue was not the price change - I knew it was coming, I just didn't expect it to come "before advertised" on the pricing page :-)

my thoughts ...

first, just to be clear, I was just verifying that the price changed prematurely, and I figured it was unintentional (kudos to Jocelyn for quickly fixing the problem.) In my case I'd already subscribed prior to the 15th so it wasn't a problem for me (but understandably frustrating for those who thought they had more time)

more importantly, Gez hit the nail on the head in that this tool is far ahead of anything else out there. I've been looking at/trying to use other options for years and after stumbling across this service last year I would agree that the Cook has more function (and does it well) so compared to the other options, even the new monthly subscription price is a bargain (and the special rate is a steal.)

Well Does anyone here remember the early days of Cook Self Service???

You Paid per project...
Joomla 1.5 only...
i subscribed and calculated that my first project would have cost us around $200 dollars to create and download
and was most certainly willing to pay that rate for a builder that saved me so much time

In Just over 12 months it now it supports Joomla 1.6-3.0.x with so much more functionality... if you ask me even the current subscription rate for new subscriptions is very very reasonable

Thanks to Admin for such a great service well worth it regardless of the price

Thank you BTB...
And also payable in volume (with points), by the way.

A good comparaison is the price of a template. All of us have paid for templates, even for non resselled projects. I personnaly have paid many time 50€ per website only for the design.

I do this job because I love it, but I have also bills to pay...

And do not forget also the money is loosing value because of big inflation due to the crisis and the financial hold-up on our economies. That's another point to consider. 1€ is not 1€ of 10 years ago. (Think hyper-inflation... ;-) )
