Hi,
I am brand new of this product and I need to know whether it may help me to solve my problem.
I have already designed a Joomla website based on J1.5 (www.club4000.it) with some PHP files performing some processing on a specific database created to collect the information of the members of our club (for example, making the computation of number of records per each member).
Now to migrate to J2.5 I would like to build a specific component which could also help my friends who are managing the site with me to make more modifications by themselves. This component should include all the PHP files I have already designed.
Is it possible to do this with Cook?
In other words, what I would like to do is to build the Component structure with Cook to accelerate the first phase and then integrate into it all the other PHP code.

Hello Piero,

Yes. I have done what you have described several times. I worked with an existing PHP/MySQL web based 'legacy' application and, using Cook Self Service, rebuilt it from the ground up. First using Cook Self Service to develop the core component, defining each Table in the Database, creating a new structure, with Back End and Front End Layouts (views/forms), and then after finalising that brand new Component, downloading it, adding the feature set to it with parts of the legacy code - mostly re-written, and by writing a few new Modules by hand to interact with that new Component I had a brand new Joomla! 2.5 compatible web based application.

Did it save me time? Yes! Cook Self Service saved me hours of hard work by establishing a solid core Component with which to work. I am certain that you too will find this a major benefit.

EDIT : I precise to the new users that Edward (www.jcombuilder.com) is partner of Cook Self Service, so his comment can be oriented.
I absolutly do think it is not oriented. Almost of users are really satisfied by the service.

There is not really to argue here.

I want to say, if you want to build for Joomla, you do not have a lot of choice.

The best I think, you can wait for the V2.0 before to subscribe, because now the code is old school and deprecated. It is not the best to start now to put in production and to customize.

You can play and customize JDom, because it is not changing in V2.0 (few things)

By the way, I announce the release of Version 1.5 (last hour), with already some nice features.

(and i am just a common subscribed user) My first project now totals over 12,800 points and with out a service like this it would not have been possible, as i have indicated on this site many times - the thing that sets Cook apart from the rest is the rapid development and service / support.
