Hello Admin, I have an SQL file which is the database of a legacy application. Can this file be uploaded to create the j-cook table structure or will I have to tediously re-create each and every field in the j-cook interface? Is this a process you can facilitate at the admin level?

No, this is too dangerous for Cook.

Each field you create in Cook is full of parameters you will must configure, so even with the solution you describe you do not save that much time.

Hello Admin, as you are aware, to manually re-create and configure hundreds of fields is not only tedious it is highly prone to errors. Consider having two audit fields which exist in all tables of a 75 table legacy db. If one has to manually re-create and configure these, what is the probability of introducing numerous errors at all levels? One can mistype the name, select the wrong field type, have different field widths, etc.

It seems to me that getting existing structures into j-cook is a must. Why should a boarder be forced to leave his/her luggage at the door?

I know that j-cook is better than doing everything from scratch but I hope that you will reconsider as it would enhance the overall user experience and is not a revolutionary idea or need.

You can start with just uploading the table and field names and then move to types, etc. Thanks

Yes, I understand and it has already been asked.

With few new suggested functionalities per day, I have to choose.

What you describe seems easy, but it is not for me.

For example :
- If you have defaults values in your DB structure, it is possible to inject in the sandbox database. No way.
- Also the file encoding is a problem
- I also consider the thousands of queries in one import, wich can be used to hack the website.

No, is no.
No way to do that for the moment.

By the way, the importing functionality (in the future), may also be limited in sandbox. (Maybe 5 records max per import for example)

Hello Admin, I never suggested records I spoke to db structure. I don't know about other users but to me, it would move j-cook from feeling like I was playing in a beautiful garden on Alcatraz to a familiar place where I could come and go as I please. Thanks for all your help though, Veronica

It is a nice app..

Yes, I understood.

I am profundly sorry.

I was also speaking about the import wizard (in future), wich will be able to import datas, because the problem is the same.

Cook Self Service is for the moment a small business, so maybe in future, for the moment there is much more others stuffs to do.

What do you prefer ? Saving some hours or having more usefull functionalities and clean code ?
You already save a lot of time with it, so please don't ask too much.
