And if you really need more info and if you really want to learn, you could find a great and long video tutorial on Lynda.com that explains how to create components for Joomla. It helps understand the MVC design pattern and the way this all thing becomes a masterpiece.

It's for J1.7 not 2.5 however, its still very helpful! Some really useful hints & downloads describing how to create separate areas in the admin side using an additional tag in the XML - you know the joomla admin-style accordion often seen on the right-hand side.
