When will you have solid documentation for your system?

So far, I love what j-cook has to offer and I would sign up for a lifetime membership too...but what stops me is the fact you have NO documentation. It's not like we can Google the information for ourselves. This is your system and the only one that can help is you. Imagine how much more free time you would have if you put some good documentation in place so that we, the j-cook community, could research for ourselves. I have one pending topic in the forum (how to create dynamic enumeration fields) that has completely halted my progress with your system. If i can't get pass this, then I will have to abandon j-cook and look for another alternative. thanks for reading.

I know, I don't know what to answer... I do not have time for the moment and I pay the price of it.
Much more user could use it with docs, and I guess many are blocked in same situation than you.

My very future plan is to propose forked and explained study cases.
Docs are on very HIGH priority.
Hold on your patience. Now the standards are not 100% defined so when a change occurs, I need to rewrite docs. It is coming soon the moment to start to write docs because the standards are more defined forever.
FoF is coming and will seal the conventions for Cook. At that moment, I will spend all my time for writing docs and the product will become more visible as well.
Coding is now a piece of cake

It is very funny that we pay for subscriptions and only to be left in the darkness with no docs to follow when needed. I got into this J-Cook nightmare from my clients who had earlier hired someone else to develop components for them.

The previous developer had to give up because of lack of proper documentations (I was told). I came into the scene with the hope of using my over 17 yrs experience to make things work. I am at the brink of given up too. I have been battling how to integrate categories into one of the components. I have obviously read through most of the topics in your forum and the answers to the different questions are worthless. Remember this is a commercial product and should be properly documented before even first sales. I only saw one poorly presented video tutorials with very poor spoken english. Why not hire someone to do proper video tutorials? After all, your customers pay for their subscriptions. How about creating time for proper documentations? STOP complaining and do what is right for your customers. Seriously, you should know better how to do business! People are paying for your product and you're complaining of not having the time to write proper documentations on the same product you collect money for?

Many free software... I mean really free software based on just donations do better than your product and you should really think about that. I don't mean to be disrespectful, it is really disgusting to read from you complaining about the lack of time to offer adequate service for your product.

@omost0m,

Firstly, let me just say that your post does not reflect the opinions of the majority of the users on this forum. Secondly, I am one of a couple of volunteer forum moderators so, in NO WAY does the following constitute JCook's response.

Whilst I understand your disappointment concerning the present state of the documentation, I don't feel that it warrants such an accusative and frankly, rude , first forum post.

To address this point specifically, I am currently in discussions with @admin (the sole developer of J-Cook) over the planning and implementation of the documentation. @admin is only one person and I know from having had the pleasure of being a service user for approximately 2 years, just how damn hard he works to provide a service that saves us all a hell of a lot of time. Further to this, I must convey the general consensus of us 'cooks' is that we appreciate the functionality Cook provides over and above the initial learning curve.

For note, all users can access the forum and post pre-sales enquiries by registering for free. Additionally, the service DOES NOT purport in ANY WAY that it is documented, completely or otherwise. Therefore, there is absolutely no valid reason that a new member should feel compelled to write such a post concerning this.

Back to your "issue":
I have been battling how to integrate categories into one of the components.
Firstly, JCook does not provide Categories functionality. Moreover, it does not claim to. Therefore, you should look at docs.joomla.org to find out how to integrate your component into the native Joomla Categories since this is a fundamentally Joomla question. Again, I must add that if you or your client had looked at the forum prior to purchasing, this would have been clear.

Since you only registered here 2 hours ago I find it hard to believe that you've read
...most of the topics in your forum...
and I'm shocked that you feel that
...the answers to the different questions are worthless...
. Therefore, if you have any more queries or concerns relating to the service, might I suggest that you continue to read the forum threads and the tutorials.
I got into this J-Cook nightmare from my clients who had earlier hired someone else to develop components for them.
. Sounds to me like your clients should exercise better judgement when selecting suitable developers. Especially since you're
...at the brink of given up too
after only 2 hours in.

I find it incredibly difficult to tolerate the sheer level of anger and resentment in your post that you attribute to the fact that this is a 'paid service' when as stated above, JCook has made no warranties, implied or otherwise, concerning the level of documentation. Especially when you've clearly warranted or represented to your client that you can execute the job for them using a service you have no prior knowledge or experience of.

I shan't respond to any of your subsequent posts unless you drastically modify your tone.

Regards

Gez

Thanks Gez.

@omostOm K--
Support is free and responsive. Don't forget.

If you have 17 years of experience, then you have more than me.
Yes of course I am auto-didact on Joomla because Joomla too is lacking on docs on many stuffs.

You can critisize Cook, you can critic Joomla as well.

Joomla is almost professional, but for me stay at the semi-professional level and it is good as it is.
Maybe you didn't choosen the good technology.
Open-source does not mean 'free of charges', but 'free of constraints'. In a sense 'without lobbies'.

You can help and propose suggestions instead of complaining at your first post.

Exactly, I am not professional in my way of doing. I am an artist and a geek.
I work on sunday's too, or until 4h00 in the night.... To serve you.
Take it or leave it.

And don't forget that the service is gonna evolve a lot, so don't miss it.

And to finish, please get in touch with the last fresh documentations :
