Joomla NO MOOTOOLS, dream or reality? 25 Jun 2013 07:16 #7642

Hi J-cookers,
I would like to see joomla without javascript at all or at least without the crappy, slow, heavy mootools and validate.js.
I would like to know if I'm the only one to think this.

+1, of course ! and I think this way is taken with 3.1 , even if it is taking a bit time ...
I am very supprised to see so many coders who defend mootols.

To reduce the load of page, I use to enable/disable mootools with this plugging " Mootools Enabler/Disabler " ...

I tried to use few plugins to enable/disable the UNBELIEVEABLE heavy mootools, but everytime it's a pain in the..... because joomla core functionalities sometimes don't work and other extensions using mootools don't work correctly, and I'm always wondering why (like you just said) there are so many coders defending so hardly mootools, when jquery is simple, fast and effective but first of all lightweight.

I'm awaiting to see the new joomla release to see if they are really moving in that direction, otherwise I'm seriously thinking to fork joomla on github and remove all the mootools code ( step by step, in my spare time ), I'm a bit tired of it, and maybe integrate the jdom by default :) .

I was also wondering why JDOM is not on github, I think it would have a bit of help from other coders.

The Cook builder is made with MooTools ;-)

It was my first application in javascript and at that time I knew only this framework.

Now I regret this choice, but it works well. The framework is simple and does already a lot.
In comparaison with jQuery it is poor, it is true.
Coding is now a piece of cake

That's possible only because you are a good coder. :)

The j-cook project is indeed one of the best tools I've run across for building Joomla components and the beta version should make things even better!
