new component: "Jhacks" was born last night! 27 Aug 2012 05:08 #3304

Hello J-cook community,
I'd like just inform you about the last free component I've created with J-cook:

Jhacks

It could be a valid help to manage your customizations on your component development with J-cook.
Any suggestion and opinion is always welcome to improve it.

Well done! :cheer:

what a great example of what can be accomplished with Cook Self Service and a little coding.
and a brilliant example to show the Joomla! community what can be done with J-Cook.

Hi @Tomaselli,

Firstly, congratulations on creating what looks to be a great component!

I've tried using it however, due to the amount of customisations I need to make and the sheer size of the component when it is built, unfortunately, it won't be suitable for my needs.

Therefore, I wonder if I could pick your brain about IDEs/processes for customising such components, in particular relating to this thread I opened here ?

Any help or pointers would be most welcome!

Once again, congratulations!

Many thanks,

Gez

Hi Audibleid,
thanks for the congratulations, you are very kind, Jhacks is a tool, it needs to be improved, so if you could tell me your detailed opinion or your needs I would be very happy to help you, in some way.

I use Titanium Studio, it's an evolution of APTANA based on eclipse.
Eclipse is the "standard" but I personally like to try new softwares because many times they are written from scratch considering the mistakes done on the older softwares, so often the results are great!

Titanium Studio has some dedicated features to develop Apps for IOs and Android. That's why I'm using it, I don't develop Apps, but I have a project right now what requires also 2 apps, so I'm going to learn Titanium and I'll let you know what I think about it.

I personally use few tools to manage the customizations/development of components with jcook, and just yesterday I started to wrote a little tool (for Windows users only) to better manage the jcook fresh generated components with customizations.

I'm also planning to write a post/tutorial here to show how I work, it may help someone.

Hi @Tomaselli,

Sounds awesome!

RE: JhHacks - I'll take a deeper look at it again over or after the weekend but I suppose from my point of view, with all of the customisations on what will be a 35+ table structure, many frontend/backend views including alot of friont-end editing, it would just get a bit unwieldy.

Personally - and it is only my opinion, but - I see JHacks really coming into it's own where modifying smaller amounts of code are concerned; customising a bit of CSS/JS for a particular view in a component. BTW - it seems to do that extremely well!

Have you seen my other post on this ?

I'd be most grateful if you had any opinions, answers or suggestions for any of my questions in the topic and I'll be sure to checkout Titanium Studio!

Many thanks!!!

Gez

The j-cook project is indeed one of the best tools I've run across for building Joomla components and the beta version should make things even better!
