I have created quite a bit of my new component in Cook, but need help finishing things up. I am building an online course... that has a range of questions and categories. e.g. I require record navigation according to categories, and to display the correct flysheet according to the category.

Ideally, being able to create a menu item in back end according to each category would also be helpful.

I'm not sure how to do any of the above.... Can you help? Let me know!

Thanks,
Geoff

I'm willing to help, but are you familiar with joomla and how to create menu items for components in general ? (not talking about cook here, just the regular joomla thing)

What do you mean by "record navigation" ?

Yes I'm advanced at using Joomla to create a site, but not advanced with programming, though I often customise scripts.

Record navigation, I mean being able to progress forward and back through a series of questions that belong to the same category.

For example, I am hoping to be able to create a basic page for displaying questions. However, questions are grouped into different categories (called 'tools'). The current category would be determined by a url parameter ( e.g. &tool=my_tool_category). This parameter would also be used to load the correct flysheet in order to display the question appropriately for the current category. Once the structure was in place, I can customise the flysheets layouts.

Does that make sense?

thanks,
Geoff

About nav, it's really something we've been talking here in the forum, with Edward having showed some nice screenshots of nice nav layouts.

Hello All,

I've been a busy beaver. I have most of the previously mentioned Step-By-Step 'wizard' functionality working now in several projects. (lots of Javascript and CSS3).

I need a week or two to get some work off the table but then I will freely share my findings and examples. So, if you're interested.. hang in there.

Edward.

Another night worker bird !

You are amazing, of course we are all very interressed in that stuff.

Once the V2.0 released, I will push that.

If your code is good and consistent, I will retain you name in the header of the file of course.
You can also choose a license for it.

No Jocelyn, it's 11:32am Sunday 19th August here in Sydney.. but I am a nightworker every night.

The code will be release free/gratis/open source. All I want to do is give back to the Cook community which has been so good to me.

Well, this rule apply for everyone who wants to contribute. The same as if I was integrating a third part source.
Take your time to write and finish it well, because I am not ready now for integrating it (I need to create a new complex window in the builder)

Your presence and fidelity is really appreciated here.
Thank you so much.

I love your signature.

Hi Edward

I would love to see your findings and examples, but I'm guessing they don't exists yet? At least in a form you could share?

Thanks

Hi, unfortunately due to some major personal issues it has been put on 'hold'. It's just a lower priority for a while. My apologies.

Time to create page: 0.084 seconds

I jumped and started to work on a demo component... but 2 days later this demo component became the real component. I just showed today the end result to my customer and he turned to me and said... "this is more than I expected"... All of this is because Cook did cut about 70% of my work and provided me more ways to improve the usability of the component. The end result was 17 tables all related between than to generate a full dashboard for the travel agents. Thanks for Cook developers for such great tool. This component would not be possible to be done at short time with all the features in it
