TOPIC:

linking tables and create forms for editing 30 Jan 2013 13:52 #6562

Hi,
I had a look at a lot of the tutorials, doc and topics in this forum,
but I am still confused.

What I want to do:
header table
detail table

when I see the header data in fly or form, I would see a list of all detail rows on the same page.
And, I would like to click on 'add a new detail row' or 'edit detail row'.

I got the foreign key in the detail table, so that the id of the header table is linked to the foreign key field in the detail table.
But how to create the frontend to easy add and edit details?

Is there a link to another topic which I did not found yet?
Or a step by step manual or example?

Cheers Roland

Hi Roland and welcome!

This is a really good place to start: www.j-cook.pro/docs/tutorials

This tutorial gives you step by step instructions on most of what you want to achieve and more, the final, working project + a zip package of each stage of the process...

Hope it helps!

Hi,
thx for the very very very fast answer ;-)

In these docs I saw, that I have to edit the code.
Is it only possible by downloading the project (which means to subscribe first)
or could it be done only in the j-cook environment and using the sandbox to check?

Cheers Roland

Yes, that functionality is not available directly in the cook builder so, yes, it would need to be done after download which requires a subscription.

However, you can download the tutorial package, see the basic component that was generated in Cook, then follow along with each change, comparing your changes with the incremented version packages. This will show you what can be achieved. They are really simple examples but demonstrate the principles of coding in your component afterwards.

I'm sure you'll think the subscription is worth it! ;)

I will wait for Joomla 3 support, because I only have that system running, before I do a subscription...
Like I read, it should be available the next days/weeks...

Thx for you help

I believe so, yes...

Components generated with cook will work on J3 but currently have some issues, apparently bootstrap related.

Anyway, best of luck,

Awards for the best Joomla app. This product is gonna win an award for this amazing job. Cook Self Service is the the best application from all over the Joomla universe ! It brings Joomla to a professional level really advanced for developers. It is a real fun to develop with it. The ACL part and security checks implementation are just... so much hours saved. I can now concentrate myself more on the design part and the creative works. Thank you so much. Guys I offer you all my congratulation ! Keep up the works because Joomla is needing it to increase the quality of extensions availables on the JED. I also learned a lot because I can see how to code at the proper place and I found all my answers reading the forum.
