I am probably missing something really simple but when I use the file field type in a form in the item view, everything works except clicking on the eye icon to view the file. Nothing happens when I click on the icon. When I click on the cross right next to it, the drop-down menu appears and it seems to work.

I get this both on my website as well as in the sandbox so I don't think it is a template issue.

Am I missing something really simple here?

This icon is NOT for preview. Everything is normal.

If you want the preview included in the field, just click the option 'preview' and enter a size in the form field properties.
I know it is not very ergonomic. Improvable.

Is is possible to get the file to download from in a form brick in the item view?

The icons only means this field is an uploader. Nothing more.


About the download, You can only do that in the grid view. On the file column, choose to create a link and choose 'download' task.
It will garanteed a download with indirect access file to hide the real path.

I think you can do the same in a fly, but I am not sure (must check it I don't remember)
But anyways, the grid column will write the JDom call for that, and you can copy it where you like.
