"The publish boolean" field........it is missing the functionality of the publish/unpublish toggle on the collection view.

What about if you remove the publish field in the grid, and recreate it ?

It should be an integer, and the toggle functionality is always instancied.

To my opinion, it is an ACL problem. Try under admin account.
Because the button is working only if the user can do it ('core.edit.state')
Coding is now a piece of cake
