One way to overcome this (used it for one of my clients) :
Change the way link is built in collection view, to add the possibility to specify the template to use for this particular item view, then purify one of the templates (i used beez but choose whatever you want, and i reset the css to get a fresh start), then modify the view and place the elements in it.

The version has changed and now the preview cannot evolve anymore. To make it envolving, I have to rewrite a lot of code. I can maybe try to export in SVG file if you want, but as said Edward, not before the 2.0. Coding is now a piece of cake

This is what you call a component builder. I was able to master using this in a very short time and the resulting component works like a charm. Not just a basic component builder but a fully working component builder with forms fields tables all ready to go. You can make the list and item views to display in the front and back end. Also there is a great forum just starting to evolve and I'm sure this will grow very rapidly when you all realise how good this tool is.
